What's in the set?
Eight tools with walnut handles: the C3 sloyd carving knife, C4M sloyd whittling knife, C6 and C12 chip carving knives, C15 detail carving knife, C16 roughing knife, K8a/14 compact bent gouge and SK5 double-bevel spoon knife, all in a leather tool roll.
Is it for beginners or experienced carvers?
Both. A beginner gets a complete set with no gaps to fill. An experienced carver gets steel and balance that hold up to daily work. The blades are sharp, so work away from your body.
How do I keep it sharp?
The tools arrive sharp. A few passes on a leather strop with compound between sessions keeps them that way; for a full re-sharpen use a whetstone. The S18X+ comes with a strop and compound.
What wood should I carve?
Soft woods carve best — basswood first. Our blades are sharpened for soft wood; hard stock dulls the fine edge faster.
