Palm Chisels
Using carving knives is great and all, there’s a lot of them on the market and a lot of purposes that can be covered with only a few of them, no doubt about it. However, it can get boring from time to time using the same things over and over again, especially if you’re not working on different patterns but are perfecting one of them instead. That’s why it can be a saving grace to some of us to find other tools that can serve our multitasking needs and execute the same tasks knives can, but better.
This is why having various palm chisels at your disposal is a much better option. Tools like these can be both of great assistance while you work with the knives or they can replace them nicely without any losses from your side. Lots and lots of carvers prefer chisels to knives or simply use them together for a better result, why shouldn’t you try or at least think about it as well?
Types of Palm Chisels from BeaverCraft
Using a palm tool can be a little longer than using the one that comes with a hammer or mallet for more pressure – simply because the process may take longer when you’re applying only your hands strength (especially if you’re used to mallets). However, mostly palm tools such as straight flat chisels, straight rounded chisels or straight v-profile chisels aren’t meant for fast reckless work, but rather for meticulous detail carving or accurate roughing out of a workpiece.
Flat ones are great for general cutting, reducing the thickness or height of the workpiece. Rounded tools, meaning the ones that have sweep or a curvature angle, will perform well when creating lines or getting rid of the wood in narrow places. And v-profile chisels are mostly the ones that you use for detail carving, simply because they have the biggest curvature and therefore are able to create thin lines in the wood better.
Straight Rounded Chisels and many others
Knowing why different chisels are made and used, the choosing process should become easier for you, hopefully. If you are here looking for new tools, that means you either have none or want more. We’re happy to help in both of these situations, just read the reviews there are on our tools such as straight flat chisels, for instance, so you could understand what to expect from BeaverCraft instruments.
Then look through different straight rounded chisels and straight v-profile chisels we have in our stock. You’ll see that all of them are made with a high carbon compound of steel that is intended specifically for working with wood. Why? Because carbon makes it tougher and stronger for working with soft and hard woods both. What’s more, we pre-sharpen all of our tools before sending them out for delivery and the carbon steel holds the edge much better.
Wooden handles of our tools, including chisels, are light and designated for comfortable long use without getting your hands tired quickly. To sum up, it’s an experience worth trying!
